The Township of Tiny celebrated an accessibility achievement on June 1, 2016, during National Access Awareness Week, with the installation of a Mobi-Mat recreation path at Balm Beach, one of Tiny’s most populated public beaches.

The celebration included an official ribbon cutting ceremony as well as an opportunity for attendees to visit information booths including the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario, Wheels 4 Wheels, Deschamps Mats Systems Inc., Independent Living Services and the Mobility Centre.

In 2015, the Township of Tiny Council supported the initiative of the Accessibility Advisory Committee to provide 150 feet of the Mobi-Mat product at Balm Beach to increase beach accessibility to individuals with mobility-related disabilities.

Mobi-Mats are portable and durable rollout mats designed to enhance mobility for pedestrians, individuals experiencing mobility-related disabilities and wheelchair and stroller users. The mat provides a portable walkway across the sand allowing for easy access to the water

This accessibility achievement highlights the Township’s commitment to promoting independence, dignity, integration and equality of opportunity for persons with disabilities.
